HALT Hunger - GLP 1 Probiotics
HALT Hunger
Some people can eat anything and not put on weight. If you are not one of those people and you are eating what you think is a sensible diet and sensible portions but can't loose weight, there are a few main reasons for this:
- there is something you are eating is inflammatory to you.
- there is something in your environment that is inflammatory to you. (See detox your lotions and potions below)
- you have thyroid or other health issues. We won't cover these issues here.
- you are holding onto stress. (We are currently formulating a probiotic blend that will help metabolise the stress hormone cortisol that may help with coping with stress)
Our aim is that HALT Hunger will support you to move to a less inflammatory diet in the long term with the help of the GLP 1 hormone and less food cravings you will have more freedom to make great food decisions. To get the most out of our products we highly encourage you to follow our Three Golden Food Rules and to detox your lotions and potions, see diet and lifestyle below.
By taking HALT Hunger you are giving your body the opportunity to colonise the keystone strains that are included in HALT Hunger's unique formula and reproduce them naturally. It's good to eat plenty of polyphenols and prebiotic fibre found in fruit and vegetables to help feed the bacteria and encourage them to grow in numbers.
Remember exercise, sleep, lifestyle and your light environment is also important for your body composition and health.
How to take and what to expect
Phase 1 - take every day increasing dosage by 2 teaspoons per day up to about 6 teaspoons twice a day. When you notice you are not thinking about food nearly as much as you usually do, move to Phase 2. On average this will be towards the end of week 2. If you do not reach this stage by week 4 and haven't noticed any other benefits, stop taking HALT Hunger and move onto BALANCE formula, it is unlikely you are low in the strains in our formula but it is important to rebalance your gut afterwards.
Phase 2 - pulse phase 2 days on 4 days off, or 3 days on 4 days off. You want to be taking HH for enough days in a row where you can have a day or two with reduced food intake.
If you take HH consistently for weeks at a time you will reduce what you eat and loose weight but as soon as you start eating normally again you will likely put much of weight back on as this is a form of yo-yo dieting. What we want is to keep your metabolism high. It is healthy to eat good amounts of food (sticking to the Three Golden Rules).
The aim of phase 2 is to have a few days a week where your food intake is lower. An example would be Day 1 and 2 - 6 teaspoons of HH twice before mid afternoon. Slightly lower food intake on day 1 and much lower on day 2. Day 3 stop taking HH similar food intake to day 1. Day 4 and 5 normal food intake. Start the process again. You may find you need 3 or 4 days on to achieve this followed by 4 days off. Play about with the number of days on and off and see what works for you. The aim is to keep your metabolism guessing and have a few days where your food intake is low but not too many to reduce your metabolism.
We do recommend starting BALANCE formula on your days of HH, this will help to keep the microbiome healthy and balanced.
Phase 3 - take a break from HALT Hunger. After 1-3 months of starting HH take a good break of a similar length or more. The key here is listen to your body and don't go over a period of 3 months.
It's possible your appetite may return strongly when you stop for a week or so. After a week you will likely notice that it slowly comes into balance, resting at a point where you are slightly less hungry than you were before you started the programme.
We recommend taking a long break and your body will likely tell you if you will benefit from taking HALT Hunger again or if you don't need to. If you do, we do suggest you take a microbiome test to make sure that your akkermansia levels are in check.
HALT Hunger is not recommended for children. They tend to have higher levels of the probiotics that are included in our formula, though this isn't always the case these days, especially for those who have been exposed to antibiotics. Whilst our formula contains bacteria that are beneficial to everyone we don't recommend HALT Hunger for children under 16 because of the high doses involved.
HALT Hunger should be stored in the fridge, out of reach of children.
After using HALT Hunger we recommend you transition to our BALANCE formula for at least two months, you don't need to take this daily but regularly is advised. The probiotics in this formula have been shown to have many health benefits but for the purposes of taking after HALT Hunger it is to help balance your microbiome to prevent any possible over proliferation.
Most people think HALT Hunger tastes great. If you don't like the taste of it, you can add a good quality honey, berries, seeds and turn it into breakfast or a snack.
Remember you always have the option of testing your gut microbiome before starting our probiotics.
Before you use HALT Hunger you must read all the Warnings and Advice.
Ingredients
Akkermanisa muciniphila, Lactobacillus Reuteri, Lactobacillus Gasseri, Clostridium butyricum, Bifidobacterium infantis, in lactose free Guernsey Milk.
Research shows these bacteria support the following:
Akkermanisa muciniphila:
- Improves metabolic health: study showing improved insulin sensitivity, decreased fat mass, and ameliorated metabolic endotoxemia in obese mice.
- Enhances gut barrier function which us the root cause of numerous diseases: study showing strengthening the gut barrier by enhancing mucus layer thickness and improving tight junction integrity in epithelial cells.
- Supports weight loss/improves obesity: study showing increased abundance was correlated with greater weight loss and improved metabolic parameters in overweight and obese adults
- Reduces inflamation: study shows reduction in systemic inflammation and decreases pro-inflammatory cytokines in a diet-induced obesity model.
- Increase GLP1 secretion: study shows secretes a protein called p9 which has been shown to increase GLP1 secretion in mice
- Plays a role in protection from chronic disease: study discusses type 2 and type 1 diabetes mellitus, hepatic steatosis, intestinal inflammation and different cancers (colon cancer, response to immune checkpoints) in mice.
- Lifespan boosting bacteria, shown to be abundant in those who live to a great age. A discussion of potential effects in aging and age related diseases
Lactobacillus Reuteri:
- Supports maintenance of a healthy gut barrier, regulating immunity, and limits the onset of inflammation, which is the root cause of numerous diseases.
- Shown to have anti-obesity effects in rodents and humans.
- Enhances immune function
- Reduces cholesterol
Lactobacillus Gasseri :
- Supports healthy GI tract function.
- Helps the body support leptin, a hormone that plays a crucial role in energy metabolism and fat storage.
Clostridium butyricum:
- Increases butyrate production and spore formation, increasing levels of beneficial bacteria, and inhibition of pathogenic bacteria.
- Directly triggers gut GLP1 secretion and assists with fat digestion.
Bifidobacterium infantis:
- Works alongside Clostridium butyricum to increase butyrate.
- Also benefits symptoms of IBS by regulating intestinal transit and reducing bloating.
HALT Hunger does not contain GLP-1 and is not a GLP-1 agonist drug.
Akkermansia, fibre and chronic disease
Prebiotics are typically dietary fibres, that fuel the growth and activity of beneficial gut bacteria keeping it string and healthy.
If you don't consume any prebiotics, negative effects can occur in your gut and overall health including reduced beneficial bacteria, imbalanced gut microbiome, digestive issues, weakened immune system, poor nutrient absorption and increased inflammation.
Akkermansia, one of the species included in HALT Hunger formula, however, acts differently in the absence of fibre - it can survive on intestinal mucus. Most other strains do not have this capability and they will be reduced or disappear with the absence of fuel. It is thought that this lack of competition could allow Akkermansia to proliferate and come to dominate the GI tract. Many of the benefits of fasting or the carnivore diet for short periods are attributed to the boosting of Akkermansia. However, prolonged fasts and diets like Carnivore and Keto often lack enough fibre to keep your good microbiome happy and can cause imbalances.
The ideal level of Akkermansia is thought to be around 5% of the microbiota and it is estimated that the majority of the population fall short of these levels. In most of the studies Akkermansia has been shown to play a beneficial role in chronic diseases see above in ingredients.
However, there are studies which show the presence of excess Akkermansia in the microbiome of people with some chronic diseases such as Multiple Sclerosis, Colitis and Colon Cancer. It hasn't been established if this is causative or more likely a reaction to the diseased state as we are still in the early phases of understanding the microbiome.
To be on the safe side, we recommend that if you have an illness you do not take HALT Hunger unless you have a microbiome test to show that your levels are low.
In order to keep you gut bacteria in balance, fibre is vital in our diet and essential when using HALT Hunger. It will not only help seed Akkermansia and help you encourage this species but it will also feed all the other beneficial bacteria allowing them to also thrive.
Include plenty of fibre such as onions, garlic, asparagus, avocado, chicory, bananas, or prebiotic fibre powders (eg: acacia, psyllium husk, inulin, pectin etc),and polyphenol-rich foods found in fruit and vegetables in your diet and you will help to seed and feed your good bacteria which will in turn support your intestinal and metabolic health.
